Highlights:
Nyungwe National Park covering an area of 970 square kilometers is not only the largest block of montane forest in East and Central Africa, but is also one of the most ancient. This park also has more than 200 different types of trees.
13 species of primates including chimpanzees, the colobus and l’hoesti monkeys can be spotted in this park that also harbours almost 300 bird species of which two dozen are restricted to a handful of montane forests on the Albertine Rift.
Water falls within the forest can be reached by trekking through the well maintained.
Where to stay:
There is a rest house and campsite that is situated alongside the main road.
