Ruaha National Park covering 10,300 sq km is Tanzania's second largest National park. Its name is derived from the great Ruaha River which flows along its eastern border creating spectacular gorges.

Ruaha is Tanzania’s second largest park and biggest elephant sanctuary. Other animals that can be identified in this park include hippo, buffalo, lions, leopards, cheetah, wild dog, hyena, various antelopes, eland, greater and lesser kudu and the roan.

Birdlife in Ruaha is also prolific with over 370 species recorded. The dry season (May – December) are the best months for game viewing as the animals are usually concentrated around the shrinking water courses.
